Morsels Grows Cafe
By Lynn Geiger
TRAVERSE CITY - A move for a popular downtown coffee shop will mean more space, more seating and more morsels.
Morsels, the bite-sized bakery and cafe which has occupied one of downtown Traverse City's prime corners at the intersection of Cass and Front since it opened nearly four years ago, will head a couple of blocks east this spring.
Owners Misha and Jeff Neidorfler are planning a May 1 opening at 321 E. Front Street, most recently home to MicDaego's market and before that longtime home to Belstone Gallery, which closed in 2009 after owner Marcia Bellinger retired.
The move has been in the works since Cherry Republic owner Bob Sutherland announced his plans to build a five-story mixed-use development at the highly-visible corner last year.
Misha Neidorfler says priorities with the move were the opportunity for more seating and construction of a commercial kitchen within the same space.
Currently, Morsels' kitchen is located in the basement of an adjacent building. And though its tiny indoor seating is cozy, she says it can be a little too cozy for folks looking to have more private conversations over coffee. The new space will feature seating for 30 inside and outdoor seating overlooking the Boardman River and on the sidewalk.
In addition to the bakery and cafe, Morsels also has a catering operation which it plans to expand as well. BN
