New Williamsburg Company Offers Home Monitoring by Smartphone
WILLIAMSBURG – Synergy Sound & Vision has added something smart to their home electronics installation business: Internet-based cameras and heating/cooling controls that can be monitored by a user’s smartphone and/or home computer.
The company, which has offices in southeast Michigan and recently expanded into Williamsburg, has long specialized in custom home electronics installations like home theaters, multi-zone audio/video systems and central vacuum installation. Adding an installation option that would allow users to keep an eye on their homes seemed a good fit for the northwest Michigan market and its the abundance of vacation homes, says Scott Burdick, owner of Synergy.
How the systems work? Essentially, Internet-based cameras are placed inside and outside of the user’s home. A linked app on the users smartphone or computer enable the user to access images from the cameras. The more sophisticated cameras can pan, tilt and zoom with control input from the mobile device or computer. Internet -based heating/cooling thermostats can be monitored or controlled in the same way.
“We have been seeing a strong trend toward Internet-based systems,” says Burdick. Much of the equipment the company installs is available directly from retailers or the internet, but, says Burdick, “We add tremendous value to an installation by concealing wires, adding remote control options and, most importantly, training the homeowner on the use and features of the systems.” BN
