COMPUTERS & TECHNOLOGY: Oleson’s launches new web shopping service

TRAVERSE CITY – Oleson’s Farm Fresh Markets is ringing in the millennium with a new feature on their web site that lets shoppers order their groceries on line and pick them up from Oleson’s Plaza West store.

The only registration required is a name, address and user ID/password created by the shopper. Here’s how it works:

Log on to www.olesons-foods.com. Click on “Shop the Store” and browse by clicking on the categories listed to the left of the page.

Categories include: Dairy, Deli, Floral, Fresh Fish, Frozen Foods, General Grocery, General Merchandise, Health and Beauty Aids, In-Store Bakery, Meat, Prepared Foods, Produce, Wine, Beer & Alcohol.

Any category with a “+” next to it means that it contains sub-categories. Dairy, for instance, has 16 sub-categories, like butter, cottage cheese, eggs, yogurt and refrigerated dough. Each one lists the brands available and the prices.

The search feature lets customers look for specific products, and buying a product is as simple as clicking the “buy” button next to the item. The item pops up on the right side of the screen on the “receipt.” On-line shoppers can even use Spartan Stores’ “U-pons” Internet Coupons.

Orders must be placed by 8 a.m. weekdays for a pick-up in the 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. time window. Orders must be placed no later than noon for pick-up on the same day in the 4:30-6:30 p.m. or 11 p.m.-12 a.m. time slots. Check out the site for the other pick up times.

The cost to pick up the items is $2.99 for 20 items or less and $4.99 for more than 20 items.
