GR company buys Peninsula Office Furniture

TRAVERSE CITY – Purchasing office furniture and obtaining supplies just got easier, thanks to a merger and a move.

A July 1 buy-out of Peninsula Office Furniture & Supply Company of Traverse City and Petoskey by Integrity Business Solutions of Grand Rapids, the state’s largest independent dealer, brings more choices and cost savings to local buyers.

Tom Couturier, former owner of Peninsula Office Furniture & Supply, said plans to join his four-year-old company with Bob Knoll’s downstate-based operation have been in the works for about a year.

“The merger gives us the opportunity to be more aggressive in our pricing and gives us buying power that we’re able to pass on to our customers,” he said.

Now under the name Integrity Business Solutions, the Traverse City and Petoskey stores join a roster of company stores throughout Michigan including Grand Rapids, Fremont, Noblesville, St. Joseph and Kalamazoo. The new northern division sells leading names in remanufactured office furniture such as Steelcase, Haworth, Hon and remanufactured Herman Miller to commercial, industrial and residential customers. However, office supplies account for about 60 percent of division sales, according to Couturier, general manager for the division.

As a large independent dealer, rather than a franchise or giant corporate operation, both the customer and employee benefit, Couturier said.

“We’re not set in stone when we want to implement new things into the company,” he said.

The merger means the five Traverse City and three Petoskey-based employees receive a more attractive benefit package. And salespeople will find greater opportunities to increase market share, Couturier said.

The store is at 1580 South Airport Road in the same location Peninsula Office Furniture operated from. In Petoskey, the company is located at 438 East Mitchell. BN
