HEALTH CARE: Leading home health care company opens in TC
TRAVERSE CITY – In December, IVonyx Inc., a provider of IV infusion therapy for patients in home settings, opened a branch office in Traverse City.
The 5,300 square-foot office at 4125 Cedar Run Rd. is the 7th IVonyx facility to open in Michigan.
In business since 1987, IVonyx is headquartered in Livonia, and has branched out to Illinois, Tennessee, Louisiana and New Jersey, giving them the ability to effectively service the eastern part of the United States. Crain’s Detroit Business ranked IVonyx the sixth-leading home health care company in southeastern Michigan in 2000, and the only home infusion specialist.
The Traverse City opening grew out of the company’s desire for better coverage in northern Michigan, said Jeff Keene, vice president of operations.
“Traverse City seemed to be the right place,” he commented, with Munson Medical Center, the area’s sophisticated infrastructure and demographics that matched the criteria.
There are a number of medications patients can receive through an IV–from antibiotics to chemotherapy to nutritional requirements (i.e. for patients who can’t process or swallow foods). The fact that patients have the treatments at home can make a big difference in their healing process.
“Patients often recover quicker in a home setting,” notes Keene.
Plus, they receive the same professional treatment they would in a hospital setting, at a lower cost.
And IVonyx can take care of people wherever they are. For those who spend winters in Florida, yet still need their treatments, for example, IVonyx can ship their medication and arrange for nursing assistance, if required.
All IVonyx branches have a registered pharmacist on staff and other highly-skilled healthcare professionals.
Carol Lowe, operations manager for Traverse City, also manages branches in Jackson and Livonia. Mike Wallace is the Traverse City pharmacy manager, Judy Flynn, the clinical manager and Gail Miller, account representative.
Each branch is evaluated on a quarterly basis in the areas of pharmacy, nursing and administration. IVonyx has received over 90 percent satisfaction ratings from patients in these quarterly reports.
IVonyx, one of the largest privately-held infusion companies, has long standing business relationships with managed care organizations, having secured more than 75 national managed care contracts, plus over 100 local contracts.
Their team of professionals works with physicians and case managers from companies like Priority Health and Blue Care Network to provide a collaborative approach to patient care.
Since 1987 they have grown to more than 200 employees and plan to continue growing and expanding. Call 929-8372 for further information. BN
