HEALTH CARE: Regional check up

? Otsego Memorial Hospital’s new MedCare Walk-In Clinic opened nearly a month ahead of schedule on Nov. 7 behind Wolohan Lumber. The clinic will serve the urgent care needs of the general population and the occupational health needs of the business community.

The facility features separate treatment areas for urgent care and occupational health, a large parking area fo

r patients and staff, on-site laboratory and X-ray facilities, and room to expand in the future.

Otsego Memorial Hospital has operated a walk-in clinic since 1992. It began in the hospital’s emergency department, then in 1996 relocated to the U.S. 27 South offices.

Since 1997, the demand for the service by residents and visitors to the community has more than doubled. This year, visits to the clinic are expected to exceed 13,500.

The new clinic represents an investment of nearly $600,000. You can reach it by calling (517) 731-4111.

? The new Mobile Sleep Lab at Otsego Memorial Hospital is now scheduling appointments to help local residents determine how they can get the rest they need for a healthy, productive life.

The Lab is a partnership between Otsego Memorial Hospital and the Munson Sleep Disorders Center, in Traverse City. Sleep specialists David Walker, D.O., F.C.C.P., and Margaret Moen, M.D., are overseeing the program, which began in Gaylord on Aug. 27.

Previously, area residents traveled to other cities for the tests which typically require overnight monitoring of patients. Now, those patients can be scheduled for the same tests and the necessary course of treatment at their local hospital.

The specialists of the Mobile Sleep Lab use state-of-the-art polysomnographic technology to accurately diagnose sleep problems. For more information, call (517) 731-2152.
