In The Spotlight: The Sassy Sandwich Inc.

TRAVERSE CITY – Come October, you can swing into the Copper Ridge development for more than a doctor’s appointment; you can grab a latte and a steaming piece of just-out-of-the-oven bread from The Sassy Sandwich, Inc.

Owned by Sharon Wise and her daughter Emily Norton, the new coffee house and restaurant off Silver Lake Road will carry gourmet coffee, cappuccinos, espressos, lattes, smoothies, in addition to gourmet sandwiches made with freshly-baked bread, as well as wraps, paninis, quesadillas, soups and salads, and desserts.

Norton does her own baking and will also make specialty breads or gourmet desserts for special occasions, Wise said. They plan to open at 7 a.m. to coincide with hours at Traverse City State Bank, also opening this fall (see article pg. 24).

The restaurant will be the only food purveyor in the Copper Ridge Marketplace, Wise said, adding that their location is “an amazing spot with windows on three sides.”

To take advantage of the views, they plan to market the restaurant as a place for private parties, such as bridal showers.

They also plan to do deliveries to area businesses (read: car dealerships with hungry sales staffs), and will put together sandwich trays for clients, such as drug reps who like to take lunches to physician offices.

Wise and Norton are no strangers to running a food business; they previously owned the original Sassy Sandwich in Owosso. They decided to relocate to Traverse City when Emily’s husband took a job with an area construction company last fall.

Earlier this summer, the mother-daughter duo opened a Sassy Sandwich at the corner of Front and Cass in downtown Traverse City, serving lunch only.

The outdoor cafe is seasonal and may be open through December, depending on the weather. It’s open 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and until 9 p.m. on weekends. It can be reached at 995-0030. BN
