Armor Express cashes in on military, anti-terrorism markets post-bankruptcy
In the 1990s, Second Chance Body Armor was the darling of the northern Michigan business scene, with legends of its founder actually shooting himself to prove the efficacy of its products.
In 2004, a recall put the company in a tailspin, its assets sold off.
But now, following a merger with another body armor defense contractor and $200 million in federal contracts, the Central Lake company has risen again under the name Armor Express.

New Orthopedic Surgery Center Opens Its Doors
A new, state-of-the-art orthopedic surgery center has opened just off US-31 near Sam’s Club in Traverse City. Alliance Surgery Center is a joint venture between Great Lakes Orthopedic Center (GLOC) and Traverse City Orthopedics. The center had been under construction for a year and opened this month.
The center’s opening will eventually bring 14 new full-time equivalent jobs to the area.
Dr. John Reineck of GLOC said the new center marks a new advance.
