Local Painter Nabs Nat’l Spokesperson Gig

TRAVERSE CITY – If you purchase FrogTape brand painter's tape, there's a good chance you'll recognize the name and face associated with it. Professional local painter Dan Brady has been named the official spokesperson for the super painter-friendly product.

But Brady was a fan of FrogTape long before the company's marketing firm nabbed him. He used (and promoted) the tape in his first do-it-yourself video, How to Paint A Room Like a Pro, released in 2009.

Around that time he had an opportunity to meet with the product's marketing team that was in the area checking out another company, he says. Brady made it clear he was a fan: "I jokingly said, 'Hey, if you ever need a national spokesperson …"

Someone took that joke seriously. Brady interviewed for the spokesperson gig late last year and in March signed a one-year contract with the company. "My first paid spokesperson role!" he says.

Brady has about a dozen obligations to perform throughout the year. He represented the product at the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas last month and recorded a promotional video launching the FrogTape "Earn Your Stripes" contest. That video can be viewed at frogtape.com.

He will also be involved in product photo shoots, share professional painting tips and ideas on the FrogTape blog, and also film "how-to" videos featuring the tape.

What is his favorite thing about the product? No more paint bleeds, he says. FrogTape is treated with PaintBlock Technology, a highly-absorbent product that reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier, he explains.

Brady founded Dan Brady Painting and Wood Restoration about 10 years ago to handle both residential and commercial painting projects. He's been featured on The Learning Channel's Trading Spaces program and appeared in a segment of Carter Can with fellow hometown home improvement guy and friend Carter Oosterhouse. BN
