Newsmakers: People On The Move


Sgt. Brandon Brinks was recently named the 2015 Law Enforcement Division Employee of the Year for the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office. He is a 13-year employee and has taken on many roles, including being a community police officer, a field training officer, a member of the dive team, and currently oversees the Sheriff’s Office Reserve Program and is a firearms instructor.

Stacy Folgmann was recently recognized as the 2015 Corrections Division Employee of the Year for the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office. She began her career with the Sheriff’s Office in 2011. She is eager to improve the technical operations of the corrections division and was an integral part of setting up a way for housing and medical payments to be paid online which has helped to increase revenue for the jail.

Scott Herzberg of Northwestern Michigan College’s Veterans Services is the recipient of a 2015 John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Award from the League for Innovation in the Community College. The award celebrates outstanding contributions and leadership by community college faculty and staff.

Jason Slade, an electronics instructor at Northwestern Michigan College, is the 2015-16 recipient of the NISOD award for teaching excellence. Criteria include professionalism, relationships with students and colleagues, and commitment to learning.


Daniel Baker, cash management officer, assistant vice president of First Community Bank in Traverse City has been accepted as a new member of the Alma College Alumni Board. He is serving a three-year term on the board, in which he will aid in the advancement of the college and help promote alumni and student engagement.

George F. Bearup has joined Greenleaf Trust in Traverse City as a senior trust advisor. Bearup was a founding member of Smith Haughey, Rice & Rogee ‘s Traverse City office and has practiced law in Michigan for more than three decades in the field of trusts, estate and retirement planning.

Sam Campillo has joined the Lighthouse Group in Traverse City as a benefits account manager. He brings prior experience in the insurance industry to his new position.

Chrissie Gonzales has joined the Lighthouse Group in Traverse City as a business account executive.  She brings an insurance background and is the vice president of the Bay Area Agents Association.


Glen N. Ackerman, M.D., has joined the staff of Munson Medical Center in Traverse City as a board-certified specialist in neurology. He practices inpatient neurology.

Jennifer Lynn Bowling has joined Traverse Health Clinic as an adult/older adult nurse practitioner. She focuses on adult primary care and is accepting new patients.

Jay Klein, D.O., has joined iNDIGO Collaborative Care, providing post-acute and long-term care services for iNDIGO Health Partners based in Traverse City. Klein, a geriatric medicine specialist, will continue to care for patients at Birchwood, TenderCare, Maple Valley Nursing Home and Orchard Creek.

Mary Robinson was recently named the Kirkhof College of Nursing’s regional nursing programs coordinator for the northern Michigan region. She advises potential and current students on programs and coordinates community outreach. She brings two decades of practical nursing and nursing education experience to the position.

Bob Brick, broker/owner of RE/MAX Bayshore Properties in Traverse City, has been appointed to the board of directors for Venture North Funding & Development. Venture North is the business financing and support division of TraverseCONNECT.

Kim Glerium has joined Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors in Traverse City. She brings 25 years of sales and negotiating experience to her new position.

Kurt and Tammy Hubschneider have joined Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors in Traverse City. Kurt has a strong sales and customer service background while Tammy has a strong administrative background. They have owned and worked in business together for many years.

Christine Stapleton, owner and broker of Stapleton Realty-Honor/Empire, ranked #1 in Benzie County in 2015 for number of units sold and sales volume. With just two sales associates, Stapleton Realty ranked 8th of 50-plus agencies in number of units sold in the combined counties of Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Benzie. The agency was 4th of 37 agencies in units sold in Benzie.

The Women’s Council of Realtors (WCR), Northern Michigan announces the following leadership news for 2016:

Molly Buttleman, realtor with Century 21 Northland in Traverse City, is president. She presides over the chapter’s governing board and monthly programs advancing women as professionals and leaders in business, the industry and in the communities they serve.

Erika Korndorfer, realtor with Coldwell Banker Schmidt in Traverse City, is president-elect. She chairs the education & programming committee.

Barbara Hood, associate broker of Stapleton Realty in Lake Ann, is vice president. She heads up marketing & membership for the chapter. She was also elected to the Traverse Area Association of Realtors Board of Directors in 2016 for a 3-year term.

Dee Dee Burch, realtor with Real Estate One in Traverse City, is secretary. Burch was awarded 2013 Realtor of the Year and served for three years on the Traverse Area Association of Realtors as a director.

Lee Miller, mortgage loan officer of Lake Michigan Credit Union in Traverse City, is treasurer. This is Miller’s second year serving on the governing board. She is also an affiliate member of the Traverse Area Association of Realtors.

Karly Wentzloff, realtor with Coldwell Banker Schmidt in Traverse City was elected to Michigan’s Women’s Council of Realtors Governing Board, serving as the 2016 secretary. Wentzloff was Member of the Year 2015 WCR Northern Michigan and served as WCR Northern Michigan president in 2014.

Debra Hall, realtor with Real Estate One in Traverse City, was elected 2016 Governor of the State of Michigan Women’s Council of Realtors. Hall served as the WCR Northern Michigan’s 2011 president, and presently chairs the WCR national steering committee for 2016.

Susan Soffredine Rauser, owner of Susan Rauser State Farm Insurance Agency of Traverse City, has been appointed as the 2016 President of Bras For A Cause TC, Inc. Bras For A Cause is a partnership with Northern Michigan Women’s Council of Realtors, fighting to help women have the resources needed to fight breast cancer and have healthy outcomes. The 7th annual event is planned for this fall.


Todd Harrison is the new general manager of WPBN-TV (NBC) and WTOM-TV (NBC) in Traverse City. Harrison also oversees the sales and other non-programming related services of WGTU-TV (ABC) and WGTQ-TV (ABC) in the same market pursuant to joint sales and shared services agreements. He brings more than 13 years of sales and management experience, most recently as area manager for Viamedia, Inc. in the Indiana and Wisconsin markets.

Ashley Jelinek has joined Corporate Settlement Solutions (CSS) in Traverse City as chief operating officer. She oversees both Michigan and national operations, as well as the information technology team. Prior to CSS, she worked as a management consultant at Bain & Company.

Brett Kneitel has joined the Mitchell Graphics account management team in Traverse City. Mitchell Graphics is a full-service marketing and communications company.

Margaret Paxhia-Poppaw has joined Corbin Design in Traverse City as a junior designer. She supports the project teams with design, planning and production tasks.

Scott Pryde has joined the Kingsley commercial contractor Springfield, Inc. as the Smart Anchor General Manager, the fall protection division of the company. He brings more than 26 years of experience in health and safety, sales and technical service in a number of different industries.

Christopher G. Rogers, an attorney in the Kuhn Rogers law firm in Traverse City, has recently been named partner. Since returning to the area in 2009, he has focused his practice on trust and estate planning and administration, real estate and business transactions.

Peter Schimpke is the new manager of operations and engineering at Traverse City Light & Power. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the electric utility industry. He previously worked for the Michigan Public Power Agency.

Neil Stringer has joined Gosling Czubak Engineering Sciences, Inc., in Traverse City as a design specialist. He brings a strong background in 3D modeling as well as composition and design.

Ella’s, a fashion and home décor store in downtown Traverse City announces the following personnel news:

Laurie Banish has joined the store’s design consultant team. She brings a sales background to her new position.

Debbie Demin has joined the design consultant team and brings eight years of interior design experience to the role.

Eliza Foster is the shop’s new social media manager. She manages Ella’s website, and its Instagram and Facebook presence.
