Proposed hotel gets off ground floor
ELMWOOD TOWNSHIP – Northporte Development Company in Traverse City is getting closer to building a three-floor, 91-unit Homewood Suites hotel across from Elmwood Township Marina on M-22, just south of Cherry Bend Road.
Elmwood Township planning commissioners gave the site plan preliminary approval at their June 27 meeting.
“Everything went positively,” said Sylvia Bowling of Northporte Development. “We have preliminary site plan approval; another stage is coming in August to go for the final (plan).”
In addition to the township, the plan will need a nod from the health department, road commission, drain commission, etc.
A Hilton subsidiary, the hotel is an “extended stay type of arrangement,” according to Bill Swanson, the township’s site plan review administrator. “The units are suites, with sitting rooms and kitchenettes. They’re designed for summer recreation, where guests would stay longer than a couple of days, like a week. In the winter, they would be used by a lot of business people. Someone on temporary assignment, for example, would be able to live there.” BIZNEWS
